Horseradish Sauce for Beef Loaf
For grown ups only this sauce was traditionally served in our Puritan families of the USA since 1895.
3 tablespoons of dry bread or the bread crumbs
1/3 cup of freshly grated horse radish root
3 tablespoons of butter, or butter substitute like LAND O LAKES
1/2 teaspoon of salt
1/8 teaspoon of pepper
Dash of paprika
11/2 cups of milk
Put the milk, the bread crumbs and the grated horseradish root into the top of your double boiler, and cook on a very low fire for good twenty minutes. Remove from heat, add the butter, salt, and pepper, mix slowly.
If preferred- at the end of cooking the milk- you may mix in into this sauce a diluted tablespoon of cornstarch- one tablespoon of starch goes for a good cup of cold water. Mix in this starch into the sauce at the end of cooking- a minute or so,before you take the sauce from the stove,
