COFFEE CAKE
2 cups of flour
1/2 teaspoon of salt
2 tablespoons of white granulated sugar
4 teapoons of baking powder
1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon
3 tablespoons of shortening
3/4 cup of fresh sweet milk
For this cake you will need to sift together 2 cups of all purpose flour, with 1/2 teaspoon of salt, as well 2 tablespoons of white granualated sugar , with added 4 teaspoons of baking powder and 1/2 teaspoon of ground cinnamon. Cut in 3 tablespoons of shortening and slowly mix into the dough. Then and add 3/4 cup of sweet fresh milk. Mix the dough thoroughly. Pour the dough into well greased round pan and over the top spread the icing made of the flour and sugar.
Icing for the coffee cake
Take 1 tablespoon of flour and mix with 1 tablespoon if white granulated sugar and 1/2 teaspoon of ground cinnamon with 1 tablespoon of melted butter.
This is a very old our family recipe of coffee cake which keeps remark ably well for two three days in the shelf.
