Good-Luck Doughnuts for the Halloween
My presbyterian great grandmothers celebrated Halloween as each family in the USA. For traditional Halloween evening the doughnuts they used to fry were traditional doughnut recipes as usual, but the shape of the doughnut was the horseshoe- for the good luck.
Make the doughnuts of your preference by any reliable doughnut recipe and formula you love. Cut the dough of doughnuts into horse-shoe shapes and fry them in the deep hot fat. The best working is an oil with 1/3 rd of the pig lard. For the dainty looks, the cloves are stuck into the doughnuts- here and there. Those cloves in the cakes simulate nails.
