KING EDWARD'S CHRISTMAS FEAST
THE LEADING MAGAZINE OF THE PRESBYTERIANS OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA HAS PUBLISHED THE MENU OF THE CHRISTMAS SUMMIT OF THE KINGS OF THE GREAT BRITAIN, THE EMPIRE OF GERMANY AND THE EMPIRE OF RUSSIA AT THE SUMMIT OF THE RULERS OF THE WORLD ON CHRISTMAS, LONDON 1908.
THE ARTICLE IS PRESENTED AS IT WAS PUBLISHED IN THE MAGAZINE " HERALD AND PRESBYTERIAN" JANUARY 1908.
For days before Christmas Day the royal kitchen is a scene of great activity, for, in addition to his other duties, it falls to the king's chief cook to prepare the great boar's head,- the kaiser's usual Christmas gift to his uncle of Great Britain. With its highly polished tusks and ornamentation of colored confectionery, the boar's head makes an imposing spectacle as it is borne into the banqueting hall on a great silver platter, shoulder high, to the accompaniment of the ancient carol:
Bedecked with bays and rosemary."
That other traditional festival dish the peacock pie decorated with the feathers of the royal bird, also adorns the table, while a noble baron of beef, contributed by one of King Edward's prize heifers, occupies the center on the sideboard. Not to be outdone by the German Emperor, the Czar of Russia regularly augments the British sovereign's Christmas cheer with an imperial sturgeon and a special and particular kind of Russian caviare.
