Steamed Chocolate Pudding
And our aha moment-pudding will be chocolate pudding as in Washington this year or not? Yes our Thanksgiving dinner had to be with traditional puritan British pudding, but with the New England or Washington twist- we were traditional Methodists and it would have been an insult to our great grandparents to miss the pudding as in the city of Washington.
For this traditional festive pudding you will need:
1 egg
11/2 cup of white granulated sugar
2 Tablespoons of fresh sweet unsalted butter
11/2 cup of fresh sweet milk
11/2 cups of white wheat all purpose flour
2 teaspoonfuls of baking powder- we prefer Calumet, but Glabber Girl baking powder works fine as well
11/2 square baker's chocolate
1 little pinch of kosher salt
Sift the flour with baking powder and half of the sugar into a mixing bowl three or four times. Melt the chocolate in the water bath and add the melting butter into the chocolate- mix together in the double boiler until melted. Pour the chocolate into the flour. Add the warm milk into the dough. Beat the cold egg with sugar and a pinch of salt and fold the egg into the dough. Pour your dough into the greased baking pan and place into the water bath - into the double boiler. Steam your pudding for two hours at least. When done, let it cool down and serve with the heavy whipped cream or sweet vanilla sauce.
