Baked Apples
1 cup Brown Sugar
8 or 10 large cooking apples(Granny Smith or Golden Reinette)
21/2 tablespoons cornstarch
3/4 cup cold water
1 teaspoon butter
Butter a pan thickly, then cover the bottom with half the brown sugar and the cornstarch, add the cold water and mix until smooth. Place the peeled, cored and halved apples in the pan, cored side up and fill each hollow with the remaining 1/2 cup sugar. Bake in a hot oven until the apples begin to brown, then cover and bake very slowly until they are all uniformly soft. Mrs CB Copley Ohio
