Chocolate Layer Cake

 Chocolate Layer Cake 

1/3 cup butter or butter substitute 

1 cup sugar 

2 eggs 

Pinch of salt 

11/2 cups flour 

1/2 teaspoons baking powder 

11/2 cup milk 

1 teaspoon vanilla 

Cream butter, sugar, and add beaten yolks, and beat all together until very light. Sift  the flour and baking powder and salt together, and add alternately to first mixture with the milk. Fold in stiffly beaten whites, and bake in two layers.Put teaspoon butter and 1 teaspoon vanilla between layers and cover top sides of cake while mixture is lukewarm. This has been the favorite cake my household for many years Menu IV
