Chocolate Filling
2 squares of bitter chocolate
1 cup granulated sugar,
3 tablespoons cornstarch
Salt
1 teaspoon of butter
1 teaspoon of vanilla
Put 2 squares of bitter chocolate double boiler, when melted add 1 of boiling water, then add 1 cup of granulated sugar. Put over fire, and let come to a boil, add 3 level tablespoons of cornstarch, dissolved in 1/2 cup of cold water, and add a pinch of salt, and stir until thick. Remove from stove, add 1 teaspoon butter and 1 teaspoon vanilla. Put between layers of the chocolate cake, and cover top sides of cake while mixture is lukewarm. This has been the favorite cake my household for many years. Menu IV
