Date and Nut Salad
1 cup of pitted dates
1 cup of chopped celery
1/4 cup of walnut meats or other nuts
1 big head of lettuce- Iceberg lettuce works fine
For this salad you will need to have 1 cup of dates, 1 cup of nicely chopped celery. 1/4 cup of nut meats- the best for this salad will be traditionally- the English walnuts, as well you will need 1 head of lettuce- the head of Iceberg lettuce will do fine.
Remove the stones from dates, if they were not pitted and fill the cavity of the fruit with one fourth of a scalded and grinded English walnut. Place the dates on a lettuce leaf, put the finely chopped celery into the center and add the salad dressing onto the top.
If you do not want to go for the looks- chopp the dates, add the grinded walnuts and the finely chopped celery into the bowl and mix with the salad dressing- ordinary mayonnaise works really fine.
Place a good tablespoon on each salad leaf and serve on a nice white sauccer plate. This is traditional Southern Californian salad loved in our family since the beginning of the last century.
