Marble Cake
11/2 cups sugar
1/2 cup butter
1 cup water
4 eggs
21/2 cups flour
1teaspoon of baking powder
Take 11/2 cups sugar, 1 2 cup butter well creamed together, 1 cup water and mix together. Take whites of 4 eggs well beaten, 21/2 cups flour sifted with 1teaspoon of baking powder.
Dark part:
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup butter
1 cup water
1/2 teaspoon soda
1 teaspoon of cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon of nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon of cloves
1/2 teaspoon of ginger
21/2 cups flour
yolks of 4 eggs beaten
1 cup sugar and 1/2 cup butter well creamed together, 1 cup water and 1/2 teaspoon soda well dissolved. 1 teaspoon of cinnamon, 1/2 teaspoon of each nutmeg, cloves and ginger. Add 21/2 cups flour yolks of 4 eggs beaten to lemon color. Mix in 2 different bowls, then drop alternately into large greased baking pan. Bake in slow oven about an hour, cool in a pan.
