Jellied Apples

 Jellied Apples 

Traditional New Years dish of the first day of the New Year. Our Great grandmothers from Germany served the jellied apples on the first day of the year .

5 Spitzenburgs apples

2 cups of sugar

1/2 cup of water

Wash, peel and core and  slice fresh apples very fine and thin. The best are Spitzenburgs, if you have them. Put  them into a pudding dish in a layer, on the top of italternate the layers of sugar .To the baking pan you add half cup of water or more if needed to and cover the apples. Cover the baking pan with a plate and bake in a slow oven for four hours. Turn out  onto the platter when the apples are cold.
