Nut Bread

 Nut Bread

2 eggs well beaten

5 tablespoons of white granulated sugar

1 teaspoon  of kosher salt

21/2 cups of fresh sweet milk

51/2 cups of all purpose wheat flour

5 teaspoons of baking powder rounded- we use Calumet, but Glabber Girl and Baking soda works fine as well

1 cup  of grounded nut meats

3 tablespoons of melted butter

Melt the butter till soft. Beat the eggs with sugar in a blender. Sift the flour with the baking powder and salt. Mix the flour, nuts and butter. Slowly add the warm milk and the eggs fold in the last. Make a nice ball of the dough, cover with the cheesecloth or the plastic  and let it  stand for 20 minutes in the fridge, Then then roll the dough lightly, put it into the well greased pans and bake for 1 hour in a medium hot owen,

Our aunt Mrs HW Danforth left this original German and Lithuanian recipe of 1917-1918- real family recipe. The nut bread- traditional bread in lithuania. Instead of nut meats you can use the sunflower or pumpkin seeds- nice and tasty light bread you will get. Dries fast. but disappears from the table very fast- while still hot. Great with a fresh butter.
