Pumpkin Pie Of New England
This is how my husband taught me to bake the pumpkin pie of his family for Thanksgiving Dinner. Yes it was our gracious time- stories about the Mayflower, pumpkin patches and Puritan traditions of our family.
Here is the receipe of the Pumpkin Pie from New England,
For this pie you will need:
1 egg
1 tablespoon flour stirred in 11 /2 bowl of boiled pumpkin
1 cup of brown cane sugar
2 tablespoons of molasses
1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon of ground ginger
1/2 teaspoon of kosher salt
1/2 cup of fresh sweet milk
For two pies
1 Tablespoon of fresh sweet unsalted butter
Chop the pumpkin into an inch size cubes and boil it until your pumpkin is soft. Rub your pumpkin with a big wooden spoon and a tablespoon of butter and a tablespoon of flour and half of the sugar till it is mashed perfectly. Beat the egg with the sugar, milk, molasses, ad the spices into this mass, If you like- may add one tablespoon of cornstarch- stir this into the mass and pour into the prebaked pie crust. Bake your pies in the slow heat oven for half an hour until you hear a very nice smell and your pie is looking like a pudding.
