WHAT KIND OF BACTERIA ARE FOUND IN THE FRESH MILK?

WHAT KIND OF BACTERIA ARE FOUND IN THE FRESH MILK AT THE TIME OF MILKING?

What kinds of organisms are found in the fresh milk when is first secreted at the milking time?

American magazine The Creamery and MILK PLANT MONTHLY, Year 1929, Month of December informed the consumers of Americas about those scientifically proven reliable facts, which should be the general knowledge of the educated American family.

There are only three general groups of microorganisms that are found in the udder and which grow naturally in the milk ducts of the cow. They normal saprophites and are harmless to the cow. They are termed:  staphylococci, streptococci, and a group of short rod forms.

Micrococci are the type of the bacteriae- the microorganisms which is the  most common in the udder of the cow. They are natural saprophites and live in the organism of the cow as the natural flora of the cow. It is interesting to know that the common microorganism- the yeast, which causes the milk to go sour is not found in the udder.

Are the microorganisms found in the milk ducts of the cow of any commercial value to the dairy farmer?

The organisms found in the healthy udder are of practically no commercial value or the very little commercial importance to the farmer. These  microorganisms are soon outgrown in the milk  at the transportation and storage places by the organisms that enter the milk after its secretion. Such organisms in milk are pretty undesirable and the milk which is contaminated by other microorganisms during transportation needs to be treated in order to be sold to the consumer.
