SUGAR AS FOOD

 SUGAR AS FOOD

This is what our great grandparents- doctors and dieticians wanted the professional confectioners to know about the benefits of sugar as food in 1908.

The first decade of the last century, the doctors were absolutely sure, that children, especially toddlers need sugar as the food throughhout the whole day, especially when they are working out seriosly. The firm dogma was, that liver is the source and the stor of the glycogen- which is the animal form of the sugar storage in the body. Therefore the doctors were encourage the parents to give their children plenty of sugar, or candy or sugar taffy, so the growing children will have little need of  cod liver oil .(Dr Woods Hutchin, 1908).

The American dieticians were firm and persuaded that sugar, is after meat, bread, and butter is easily our next important and necessary food. The dessert- sugar after the dinner became a strong part of the standard every day menu of each American family in 1908or so.

American doctors were suggesting their patients  to find out the simple and easy fact themselves-  can put the matter  of a sugar as a test  simply and easily. They  just suggested to leave off the pie, the pudding or other kind of your favorite desserts at your lunch or dinner, and to watch how fast you will feel hungry.  You ll be astonished to how quickly you will feel empty and how unfinished the meal will seam, even if it was seriously filling.

Americans started eating the dessert and the main rule at the dinner table became this:" You can't get any working man to a dinner pail without pie in it." This was the saying of our grandmothers. And this saying was absolutely right, and all the doctors as well agreed to this statement.

The other statement of the early 1908 which is quite surprising, the firm belief of the dieticians, that the beer or the wine can serve as the substitute at the family dinner. Such a statement today seems strange and not argumented, but in 1908 it was a firm understanding that this is true.

The only thing that take the place of sugar after the dinner was believed to be  the  beer or wine.

Even some of the American restaurants and grills, or the saloons or the  bars often refuse to serve the desserts of any sorts if the alcohol- beer or wine is served. They know their business. This is a very popular belief in American and it dates early 1908.

The more sugar and sweets the man takes with his meal, the less alcohol wants,- and this is the true fact.

Conversely, nearly every drinking man will tell you, that he has lost his taste and likings for the sweets. The more candy a nation consumes, the less alcohol the nation needs. This was the real slogan of the American nation in 1908.
