CRUMB САКЕ

For the Crumb cake you will need

1/2 loaf  of a stale bread or 1/2 of pound of stale bread crumbs

2 cupful of all purpose white wheat flour

1 Egg

1/4 pound of fresh currants(black currants work the best)

1/2 cupful of  white granulated sugar

1/4 pound of lard

1 teaspoonful of  preferred mixed spices

1 teaspoonful of baking soda (Calumet or Glabber Girl works the best)

1 /2- to 1 cupful of  sweet fresh milk-

FOR this  stale bread crumbs cake sift the flour with baking powder and  your favorite spices into a metal bowl or a plasti basin  and gently rub in the lard. Then  add the currants and the sugar(you may soak the currants in the dry sugar for two hours before baking), mix  in  breadcrumbs, and then add the cold beaten egg and enough  of lukewarm  sweet fresh milk to make a nice dough. Put  the dough into a well  buttered tin and bake until a skewer will come out dry in a middle hot owen.
