Prune Kuchen

For the Prune Kuchen  you will need

 12 slices of stale bread

1 cup of favorite jam- strawberry jam works the best

2 cupfuls of Sweet Fresh Milk

1 cupful of all purpose flour

1 Egg

1/2 teaspoonful of salt (Kosher salt works the best)

Hot lard for deep fryer

SPREAD twelve slices of bread on one side with jam, thin layer; then put another slice on the top of each slice ofbread.  Cut the fritters  into neat shapes and if the bread is stale, soak  it in a little of hot milk. Sift one cupful of flour into a metal bowl or a plastic basin with a pinch of salt. Break one egg into the middle of the flour, and add half a cupful of milk gradually into the batter, and beat the batter well. Dip the pieces of bread in this batter, and fry in the deep fryer in a  plenty of smoking hot fat to a golden brown color.  Drain the fritters well from the fat, and dust with sugar. Serve with hot milk or sweet sauce.
