BREAD TARTLETS - CLASSICS OF THE AMERICAN  FAMILIES IN 1913

The Classic Grand Americana recipe of 1913. The popular Bread Tartlets was recommended to all the families of the United States of America in 1913. The original recipe of Marion Harris Neil, very popular use of the stale bread and the bread crumbs.

BREAD TARTLETS   

For the Bread Tartlets you will need

 1/2 loaf  of a stale bread or 1/4 of pound of stale bread crumbs 

2 Tablespoonfuls of fresh sweet butter

3 Tablespoonfuls of white granulated sugar

 1 cupful of  sweet fresh milk

 1 Tablespoonful l of  lemon  juice

3 Tablespoonfuls of fresh currants (Black currants work the best)

2 Eggs

LINE your gem pans with buttered paper and pastry. Put one cupful of milk and two  spoons of  butter into a  deep iron skillet or a saucepan  and bring them to the  boiling point, then pour over the boiling milk a quarter of a pound of white stale breadcrumbs and add to this three tablespoonfuls of sugar  and one tablespoonful of lemon juice three tablespoonfuls of currants, slowly fold in  two cold beaten eggs. Put a spoonful of this mixture into each gem pan and bake in a medium hot owen for 13 mins.
